The Institute for Medical Informatics (IMI) is a new institute founded in May 2021 at the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne.

The mission of IMI is to conduct high-quality basic and applied research in the field of medical data science, to promote excellence in education and training. IMI contributes to advancing the development of medical informatics as a core area for research and innovation at the intersection of medicine and health sciences on the one hand and computer and information sciences on the other, while also incorporating holistic perspectives that take into account the social sciences and humanities.

Our research team has a long history of conducting basic and applied research and plays a leading role in Germany, Europe and internationally in the dissemination of ethical, data-driven medical protocols and practices.
