Teaching as well as continuing education play a crucial role for us: We offer a large number of teaching opportunities for both undergraduates and postgraduates and thus contribute to the education of physicians, medical professionals and specialists in the field of modern information and communication technologies at the University of Cologne.

We aspire to provide excellence in teaching to medical students but also to improve the knowledge levels and the digital skills and technological competence of medical doctors. We do this by offering courses that increase the data and AI literacy and help build capacities on the use of cutting edge research on data analytics and Artificial Intelligence within healthcare and related domains, implement AI solutions in the delivery of care services to patients, and determine how data analytics and AI may provide better healthcare and an improved and more human patient care experience.

We organise all our teaching offers in four thematic fields:

• Medical Data Science
• AI Ethics in Medicine
• Medical Informatics Technologies
• Innovation and Entrepreneurship

As expected there are, of course, overlaps, and synergies amongst them. Our aim is to offer an attractive portfolio of teaching offerings to the students at each semester, using all available modalities, namely the ‘Wahlblöcke’, the ‘Studium Integrale’ and the ‘Sonstige Veranstaltungen’. 

Teaching offers

The following document provides an overview of the courses offered by our institute. With the exception of the preclinical scientific projects, our courses are also open to medical staff at the University Hospital of Cologne and research staff at the University of Cologne.
